Asking the Lord for an opportunity to help
Several times in the last few weeks I have seen people in cars that have broken down that needed help, but every time I was either already late for a meeting/class or there was no good place to pull over. I kept telling myself that I would see someone when I would have time to help them. Today I had my opportunity. I was turning from Hwy 12 to Sebastopol Rd and the person in the turn lane on the Hwy had broken down. It was a mom with a teen girl and several young girls in a HUGE truck. I was able to get around them, and found a place to park safely and ran back to help them push the car through the intersection. They had run out of gas, so I gave the mom and ride down to the gas station. We talked about work, finding a boyfriend (where the best place to meet guys), and church. She tried to give me money, but she had told me she had been laid off, so I told her to keep it and to give it to someone who needed it once she had a job again. I was so thankful to be given a chance to help someone. (And no - I didn't worry about the person being an axe murdered or anything! I figured this was the opportunity for which I had asked God).
Side note from the conversation...long walks on the beach. Why is this the answer to a perfect date? Who actually enjoys long walks on the beach? What do you do on a long walk on the beach? I mean - I like walking on the beach, it is relaxing and I enjoy spending time with someone walking and talking, but the perfect date? A great date, to be sure. But perfect? Would a gorgeous walk through the woods not also be relaxing and fun? Standing on a mountain top watching the sunset? Or (and I realize this is terribly unromantic, yet relaxing anyway - order in pizza and just relax on the couch talking about life...or maybe watch a movie...). Long walk on the beach, eh?
